My Story: A Boutique Rooted in Heart

There is something timeless and elegant about bridal fashion. It evokes a sense of nostalgia—transporting us to a simpler time, a contrast to today’s fast-paced world. Whether it’s a vintage-inspired gown or a sleek modern silhouette, bridal fashion awakens a deep joy and captures the magic every bride dreams of on her special day.

That passion inspired me to open SixPence & Sage, an intimate bridal and dress boutique in the charming town of Waterford, Ontario. From the moment you walk in, you're welcomed with warmth and care. There's no pressure—just honest guidance, heartfelt service, and a carefully curated selection of bridal gowns, dresses, and accessories. My goal is simple: to help women feel confident, radiant, and truly seen.

Now, I’m thrilled to share that SixPence & Sage has expanded to a second location in Tillsonburg, Ontario. This new boutique allows us to welcome even more brides into the relaxed, uplifting experience we’re known for. Whether you visit us in Waterford or Tillsonburg, the mission remains the same: to celebrate who you are and help you find a dress that reflects your spirit.

Before I pursued this dream, I spent 20 years serving as a frontline paramedic—a career that shaped me profoundly. Like many in healthcare, I faced the toll of sanctuary trauma and complex PTSD. In the midst of healing, I opened this boutique during the challenges of a global pandemic. It became more than a business—it became a safe, creative space where I could rediscover joy, purpose, and connection.

Today, SixPence & Sage continues to grow, fueled by the smiles of brides, the sparkle of confidence when they see themselves in the mirror, and the countless meaningful relationships built along the way.

Life is beautiful—dress for it.

In all my years, I never imagined I’d find myself drawn into the wedding world.

My introduction to the industry began when Leslie followed her dream of creating SixPence & Sage. From her vision, I had the privilege of helping bring the Waterford boutique to life, building the space and watching it grow into something truly special.

After spending over 30 years as a paramedic, I’ve seen people on some of the hardest days of their lives. Now, I find myself surrounded by people on some of the happiest days leading up to one of the most beautiful and meaningful milestones—their wedding day. It’s been a dramatic contrast, and one that has truly shifted my outlook on life.

As someone who has always been on the side of helping others, I’ve also experienced life from the other side—I am a pancreatic cancer survivor. During that incredibly difficult journey, I was embraced by the compassion of the wedding industry community. Fellow vendors and professionals continually asked how I was doing, supported me in ways big and small, and even made sure I had a comfortable chair to sit in when I needed it.

Those small acts of kindness meant the world to me. They reminded me how powerful it is to be part of a community built on joy, support, and human connection.

Now, I feel honoured to give back—to help couples on their journey toward one of the most memorable days of their lives, and to walk alongside fellow wedding professionals as part of a truly caring and uplifting community.

This journey has become about more than business—it’s a journey of kindness, happiness, and heart. And I’m incredibly proud to be a part of it.
