A Boutique Rooted in Heart, Resilience, and Connection

There is something timeless and elegant about bridal fashion. It evokes a sense of nostalgia—transporting us to a simpler time, a contrast to today’s fast-paced world. Whether it’s a vintage-inspired gown or a sleek modern silhouette, bridal fashion awakens a deep joy and captures the magic every bride dreams of on her special day.

That passion led to the creation of SixPence & Sage Bridal Boutique—an intimate, welcoming space in Waterford, built on connection, care, and heart.

From the moment you walk through our doors, you’ll experience something refreshingly different. There is no pressure—just honest guidance, heartfelt service, and a thoughtfully selected collection of wedding dresses and accessories. Here, the focus isn’t on selling—it’s on truly seeing each bride for who she is and helping her feel confident, radiant, and at ease.

Today, SixPence & Sage has grown to include a second location in Tillsonburg, allowing us to welcome even more brides into the relaxed, uplifting experience we’re known for. Each space offers something unique, while holding onto the same intention: to create a meaningful, personalized experience for every bride who walks through our doors.

Behind the boutique is a deeply personal story. Before pursuing this dream, I spent 20 years as a frontline paramedic—a career that shaped me profoundly. Like many in healthcare, I experienced the lasting impact of PTSD and sanctuary trauma. Opening SixPence & Sage during a global pandemic became a turning point—transforming challenge into something beautiful: a space where others could feel safe, supported, and celebrated.

That philosophy is woven into every detail of the boutique—from private, one-on-one appointments to the calm and welcoming environment we’ve created. You may also meet Bingley, my service dog, whose gentle, steady presence helps create a peaceful space where brides can truly feel at ease.

SixPence & Sage is more than a bridal boutique. It is a reflection of resilience, a celebration of individuality, and a place where women are invited to feel fully themselves—supported, confident, and seen in one of life’s most meaningful moments.

Life is beautiful—dress for it.

Russ

In all my years, I never imagined I’d find myself drawn into the wedding world.

My introduction to the industry began when Leslie followed her dream of creating SixPence & Sage. From her vision, I had the privilege of helping bring the Waterford boutique to life, building the space and watching it grow into something truly special.

After spending over 30 years as a paramedic, I’ve seen people on some of the hardest days of their lives. Now, I find myself surrounded by people on some of the happiest days leading up to one of the most beautiful and meaningful milestones—their wedding day. It’s been a dramatic contrast, and one that has truly shifted my outlook on life.

As someone who has always been on the side of helping others, I’ve also experienced life from the other side—I am a pancreatic cancer survivor. During that incredibly difficult journey, I was embraced by the compassion of the wedding industry community. Fellow vendors and professionals continually asked how I was doing, supported me in ways big and small, and even made sure I had a comfortable chair to sit in when I needed it.

Those small acts of kindness meant the world to me. They reminded me how powerful it is to be part of a community built on joy, support, and human connection.

Now, I feel honoured to give back—to help couples on their journey toward one of the most memorable days of their lives, and to walk alongside fellow wedding professionals as part of a truly caring and uplifting community.

This journey has become about more than business—it’s a journey of kindness, happiness, and heart. And I’m incredibly proud to be a part of it.

Dress sharp-Live fully.

Bingley

🤍 Meet Bingley

Bingley — formally known as

Sir Charles Bingley

is a trained service dog and an important part of the experience at SixPence & Sage.

He was carefully selected for his calm temperament, intuitive nature, and strong ability to perform as a service dog through training. Bingley is currently being trained as a PTSD service dog, supporting needs that are not always visible in everyday life.

Service dogs like Bingley play a vital role in assisting with conditions that may not be seen, offering quiet, consistent support when it’s needed most.

Bingley is a standard poodle, a hypoallergenic breed known for both its gentle disposition and intelligence — in fact, standard poodles are considered the second most intelligent dog breed in the world.

Training a service dog is a significant commitment, often taking approximately two years to complete. Bingley has been in training for nearly two years and continues to develop his skills each day.

He is trained to recognize subtle changes such as increased heart rate and breathing patterns, which can be indicators of anxiety or distress, allowing him to respond appropriately and provide support.

While working, Bingley takes his role very seriously and remains focused on his responsibilities. He is still in his training phase, and his presence in the boutique is always intentional and purposeful.

Over time, many of our brides — along with their family and friends — have started to recognize Bingley from our social media and look forward to seeing him when they visit the boutique. Because of this, it only felt natural to officially make him part of the SixPence & Sage team 🤍🐾

Outside of work, Bingley enjoys his downtime at home where he can simply be a dog — playing and relaxing with his other dog and cat companions.
